The Topham family ran Aintree race course in Liverpool from the mid 19th century. The family came from Coverdale in Yorkshire. Many Topham graves cane be seen at Coverham Church near Middleham. The Coat of Arms of this family was a silver shield with a red chevron, with three black cranes heads superimposed. The motto: Ut Vivas Vigila, the crest a maltese cross with two snakes entwined.
