Hi Jean,
Glad you found your William Tunstall, do you know when they went to the US?
Information on John Tunstall from Romford, Essex. He was a draper and stamp distributor in the High Street, Romford. He married Frances Partridge who was from the parish of Springfield, Essex in May 1809, don't have the exact date as it is not given on the marriage licence. They were both 21 or over. Their son John Partridge Tunstall (father of John Henry) was born in Hackney, London about 1816. In 1841 John and Frances are living in Stoke Damarel, Devon, no idea what they are doing there.
By 1861 John jnr. had married Emelie Ramie (born about 1831
on the island of Jersey, no trace of their marriage) and John Henry is with them aged eight. I don't honestly believe that there is any connection between this family and yours from Staffordshire/Warwickshire I'm afraid. Tunstalls were quite thick on the ground in the midlands in England, but not so common in the south. The lines may have come from a common one, but it would have been a long time before. Even though my own Tunstalls come from Essex, I can't link them to the John Henry one.
If you Google John Partridge Tunstall you will find a bit about him, but I have never found his birth and it doesn't seem anyone else has.
Sorry I can't help more,
Anne
