Pat,
Sounds like Eli Eddy is this guy:
Officers and Students of Middlebury College in Middlebury Vermont 1800 - 1915. This passage re Eli Eddy is found on page 7:
"Eli Eddy, son of Abial Eddy
Born in Londonderry, Vt. July 14, 1783. Studied theology but never preached regularly. Teacher Salisbury, Trenton and Rome New York till 1814 or 15; Utica 1815 – 17; Geneva 1817 – 1827; Prattsburg 1827 – 1828; Geneva 1828 – 1830; Bath 1830 – 1832. Mr. Eddy’s school in Geneva became the nucleus of the Geneva Lyceum which was started about 1830. Author of “The Juvenile Philosopher” which was the first book published in Geneva. Married Mary Ann Smith January 29, 1812. Children: Franklin Torrey; Caroline Gardner (Mrs. Cornelius Younglove). A. B. Died in Bath, New York September 4, 1832."
Eli graduated Middlebury in 1806. He was the youngest child of Abial (Abiel) and Constant Torrey Eddy and the only one of their children born in Londonderry Vermont, the others were born in Westmoreland NH.
....
Not sure who Mary Ann Smith is. The Chadsey genealogy doesn't list a sister for Sylvinia, just the same names you have - William, Ira and James.
Good luck
