I just had a question put to me which I cannot answer. Is there any documentation for any of the information that over the years we have put out there for our Chalfant ancestors? I know that I don't have any "genealogical proof" of anything. Never worried about it before. But a dear friend ask this question "How can you prove you are related or descended from this person or that person? Show me their birth certificate, marriage certificate, and death certificate. Show me the probate records or the land records."
What I have put off for years, waiting for retirement, may not be available when I get there and have the time to hunt for and obtain it.
Personally, I would be looking for information about Chads Chalfant, born abt 1759, and on back up the line. I'm not looking for a freebie, but now wonder if my branch is on the right tree. I can't prove it is or isnít. I have found out that I'm not really being a genealogist but only a family historian. And a poor one at that.
