Hello Mark
Sophia, the grandmother of Rupert Chawner Brooke, the poet, was the 22nd child of Dr. Rupert Chawner. Rupert is a popular name in this branch of the family but thename seems to have been first used by Dr. Rupert born 1750.
Thomas Challinor(sic) appears at the bottom of the second to last column of Charles I's death warrant. His connection to the Derbyshire Chawners remains unconfirmed.
There is evidence of Challoner/Chawner landholding in the Boylestone/Scropton/Church Broughton area from at least the 1600's but there seem to be several families involved and their connections are not altogether clear. I have a map dated 1802 of landholdings of the late Henry Chawner in the Church Broughton area.
Further info. about the lands would be most welcome.
