HiI was surprised at the mention of silk I had assumed they would be wool as cotton and silk are unlikely materials in Britain at that time. However French conection there seems to be as the Heraldic colours are azure and yellow. though I have not seen the mermaid but the marine conection with the seawolf.In a book on heraldry by J.P.Brook-Little a mermaid indicates a mason. He also states"Challoner afford an instance of the sea-wolf" The full quote is on page 173 if you would like me to post it for you please let me know.
