JACOB SHADRACH CHAMPION
This has all been posted before, but people continue reporting as fact, information that's been known for years to be fictional. Inexperienced researchers need to be warned of the following.
1. No record exists showing Jacob Champion with a middle name, or initial. It's doubtful he even had a middle name, and even if he did, there's nothing to suggest it was Shadrach.
2. Census records show Jacob was married twice. Ann was his second wife, and his will indicates she was a widow when he married her. She couldn't have been the mother of his oldest children, and wasn't certainly the mother of any of them.
3.Ann's surname isn't known. Someone decided since Jacob had a son named George Martin, and Martin can be both a given name, or a surname, it must have been a surname, and it must have been hers. (Why not Littleberry? That's a surname too.)
4. Jacob wasn't certainly the son of William Champion. William is simply the only Champion in North Carolina who can't be proven not to have been his father. Furthermore, there's no proof Jacob was ever even in North Carolina.
5. William's wife was named Tabitha, but there's no certainty her maiden name was Green. Somebody found a family named Green with a daugher named Tabitha, and decided if any of the Greens had named a daughter, Tabitha, then Tabitha Champion must also have been a Green.
All we know with certainty about Jacob Champion of Kershaw Cunty, South Carolina, is that he appeared there as a young adult, married and with a few children, around the time of the American Revolution. He knew how to handle cattle, and served the cause of the Revolution by driving beef cattle to the troops. He was eventually widowed, and remarried. He had a large family, became prosperous, and lived a long life. Beyond that, we know nothing more about him.
Aything else reported about him is just speculation, conjecture, and pure fantasy. People have been researching him many decades, and at least one hired a professional genealogist. Even so, nobody has ever identified his birthplace, his prior place of residence, his parents, any siblings he might have had, his first wife, or any relatives of his. Your Champion line, if it leads to Jacob, goes no further back than him.
Always,
Lynn
