Here is some info from some notes given to me by my father Jack Emile Chappuis b Rayne, LA 1921. The first is from "Southwest Louisiana Biographical and Historical" by William Henry Perrin, published 1891:
Anselm S. Chappuis born in Thibodaux, LA Nov. 5, 1849 to Stephen and Mary Louisa Sourd Chappuis, natives of Lorraine, France. Both moved to Cincinatti, Ohio when young, where they married. They moved to Thobodaux in 1940. Anselm was the 3rd of their10 children. Anselm returned to Cincinatti at age 19 to learn Tinsmithing from his uncle. He returned to Louisiana after 3 years and eventually settled in Rayne in about 1882. Anselm married Emma Bergeron in 1872 and they had a son named Eugene. Emma died one year after the marriage and in 1882 Ansem married Josephine Christman of Opelousas. Their 4 children were Ferdinand, Abner, Lawrence and Achibald. (Archibald Agustus Chappuis was my grandfather)
Another note lists the descendants of Etienne Chappuis and Marie Louis Sourd.Their children are listed as Anatolie-10/16/34 married Victor Bouterie; Jules-11/3/37 married Josephine Toups; Alphonse-10/19/39 married Ociana Dantin; Delphine-3/26/42; Aurelia-9/19/44; Josephine-9/24/46 married Louis Meyer; Anselme. S-6/5/49 married Emma Bergeron and Josephine Christman; Julia-4/10/55 married Adolph Hoffman and Clothilde-2/29/60 married A.J. Simoneaud. The list of descendants continues through 8/1/1925 and includes addresses. The list was compiled by P.J. Chappuis in Crowley on 8/14/25
