According to all of the church and census records, among other things that I have, Joseph's father was not known as Charleville. Some of the children took on different dit names but they were mostly known as Chauvin or Chauvin dit Joyeuse. Some remained in IL and kept the Chauvin name and others changed their name to just Joyeuse when they moved to Vincennes, IN. My line is Joseph Chauvin de Charleville's older brother Phillipe Chauvin dit Joyeuse.

There is also a book out, you may have already heard about it, entitled "Chauvin dit Charleville" by Elizabeth Show Mills. It might help you fill in some of the blanks, if you are interested.
