Vernon,
You are correct--it appears as if Hercule Lincourt and Julie St. Germain were probably married here in the US after their arrival, and not in Canada prior to their departure.I have searched the Quebec parish church records for their marriage and there is nothing (I will continue the search, just in case).Being married here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in abt. 1856-57 raises a bit of a problem for researchers like ourselves--where exactly did they marry, and where would the record of their marriage be today? Tracking this down will take some doing, for sure. The towns and living locations at that early time were, in a true sense, "frontier settlements" in this region. It may be that we will never find any primary document that will tell us where and when Hercule and Julia were married. But I will keep searching, none the less.
Incidently, Jean Baptiste Lincourt Sr., the husband of Genevieve Berneche, died in May of 1837 back at his Quebec home parish. If his son Joesph Hercule immigrated in 1844 to the US somewhere as he reported in the 1900 US census, he would have probably done so with his siblings. He may very well have done this around the time that he said, for I cannot find him anywhere in the Canadian records (parish and census) after his birth/baptism in 1832. This obviously needs more research as well. Joseph Hercule Lincourt, like Julia St. Germain, remains a mystery.
