All descendants of Almy Chase and Thomas Pierce
Like you, I have puzzled over this couple for years, trying to find clues to their origins. Some people have been tempted to place Almy in the family of James Chase and Alice Anthony, except for the fact that they were married on March 11, 1727 and their dau Elizabeth was married a year later, leaving no room for Almy unless she was born only a few weeks before the marriage and no one has thought since to include her in the lists of their children. As this just seems too unlikely, I have looked elsewhere.
The Anthony-Chase connection, however, provides many answers to what we need to see for Almy's family, such as, living in the Newport, RI area, having children in the 1st and 2nd decades, having names in the family group of James, Alice, Amy, Almy, John, Thomas, Josiah, Persis.
If we assume that the names of Thomas and Persis are solidly on the Pierce side of the family and remove those,we can easily see that the remaining names do appear in the line of William Anthony (Abraham and Alice Wodell, John II Anthony and Susanna Potter, John I Anthony) and his wife Mary Coggeshall who married 14 Mar 1695.
Their children included Alice who married James Chase 11 May 1727; Amey who married Isaac Chase 1729 and James who married Alice Chase.
Amey Anthony who married Isaac Chase in 1729 had a daughter Amy b 26 March 1736.I know she would have been awfully young--12-1/2 in 1748, but could she be the one who married Thomas Pierce on Nov 3, 1748 in Trinity Church, Newport?
I haven't found anything definite on what heppened to her, so I'm wondering if she is the one we are looking for.In as much as she and Thomas went to Nova Scotia around the time of the Am. Revolution and may have been regarded as traitors by relatives who were Patriots, perhaps that is why it's been so difficult.
Any constructive comments on this problem, or clues to follow would be most welcome.
