I have pretty much confirmed that the parents of Joshua Chatterson were Henry and Margaret Bortle Chatterson. A marriage record at the First Lutheran Church in Albany, NY on Feb. 12, 1826, between these two, and a daughter, Elizabeth, born in 1827, with several children following seems to be solid. In addition, Joshua's marriage license application for a second marriage in 1895 in Elkhart County, Indiana, lists his parents as being Henry Chatterson and Margareta Bortles or Bartles. In addition, Margaret was listed as a widow on the 1850 census in Oneida Co., NY, and again in 1860, in Berrien County Michigan. A Henry Bortle, age 48, died in Oneida County on October 1, 1847.
This past spring a GAR marker was placed on the grave of Joshua Chatterson in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Three Oaks, Michigan. He served in the 12th Wisconsin for the duration of the war.
