Tom, I have seen other requests (maybe yours) concerning a marriage between a Francis Chanvcey and a John Miles, but I have nothing for them in my data base. There was a different set of Chanceys in north Georgia in the early 1800s, and nobody seems to know where they came from, or where they went. I suspect your Francis is a daughter of Samuel Chancey and Prisclia Whitfield. Remember, there were few Chancys in that time that actually spelled the surname Chauncey except the original Chauncey clan of Mass and Connecutt and other NE states...of which Walley was a part of. That clan stuck around Beaufort and Pitt County NC until maybe later in the 1800s...except Isaac Chauncey, firstborn to Walley and Mary Snoad Chauncey. Isaac appears to have left the area sometime around 1880 to 1890...and we have found nothing further that can be proved. It is very likely that Isaac or his decendents came south, but try to prove it.

Here is the 1840 Clarke and 1850 Oglethorpe Cty census. and this could be your francis...I simply do not know.

1840 Clarke Co. Ga. census

1 female 30 and under 40
