Ok, I looked at the 1790 Anne Arundel Co. MD census. First of all, that census is in terrable condition. Second, the census enumerator sometimes couldn't spell...E.G., Harricon for Harrison. The Chancy or Chaneys could be either one...there is no way of telling. The lower case e, c and sometimes s & i, cannot be determined. Following are a few surnames that the e & c look identical to me. Jacob Joice Deal Welch Lee James weemes. I suspect only a family bible or some document these Chaney or Chancy's actually signed will ever prove what it was. (or perhaps find something that somebody else wrote the surname other than that individual that took the census in 1790).
