Charles County, Maryland and Washington DC

Hi Robert, You may have some of this already. Let me know if you have anything new on Charles County or DC........Pam Proctor, Harrisburg PA....William A Chauncey was my ggrandfather

sent to me by Cliff Chauncey 2/18/01....Chancey, John Thomas: CIVIL WAR PENSION RECORDS, the pension records of a John Thomas Chancey (b Nov 16 1830 in Charles County, Maryland; d in Washington DC on January 24 1914). John Thomas Chancey married Emily Jane Keane in DC on July 26 1855 (minister = John C. Smith). Emily Jane had been born in Cambridge, Maryland, on October 31 1837.

DEATH CERTIFICATE of John Thomas Chancey was signed by William C. Fowler, MD, son-in-law of William A Chauncey

FROM MY NOTES: William A Chauncey married Laura Vinton Prather in Washington DC on Feb. 4, 1864 [In her autograph book, prior to the marriage, William signed himself 'Chauncey'. In the 1870 Census, he is listed as 'Chancey']

DEATH ANNOUNCEMENT cut from DC newspaper: "CHANCEY. On the 18th inst. of scarlet fever. HATTIE ELIZA, beloved daughter of Wm. A. and Laura V. Chancey, aged 4 years and 4 months. The friends of the family are invited to attend her funeral tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon at 2 o clk, from the residence of her parents, No. 36 Defrees street."

FROM CHAUNCEY PHOTOS CIRCA 1897 labled by Edward, youngest son of William and Laura: "Uncle John and Aunt Emily [Chauncey]" [surely the John Thomas and Emily Chancey above] along with "Uncle John's sisters":
...Emma Chancey [m. Thomas Harper of Vienna VA > son Vance, dau m._?_ Hodgkins]
...Lydia Chancey [m. Charles Holbrook of Washington DC > son Charles, dau m._?_Jackson]
from the note "Uncle John's sisters", I assume 'uncle' and 'aunt' were courtesy titles for these people who were probably William A Chauncey's 1st cousins
