Last week I was in Dover, De. and Chestertown, Md. researching the Chauncey family line since my great, great grandfather, John Chauncey 1788-1852 Alexandria, Va., indicated that he came from Kent County (Dover), De.. However, I was not able to find any Chaunceys listed anywhere in either place. Note: Kent County, De. and Kent County, Md. border each other. Actually, all records for Kent County, De. prior to 1767 are located in Annapolis, Md. because Maryland claimed half of Delaware up until that time before the state lines were settled. Where did you find information on James S. Chauncey of Delaware. Thanks.
