The bible page is the same one published in Mary Chauncey Haupt's short pamphlet on the Chauncey's--printed 20 years ago. [I corresponded with her then and bought the last copy.] She identified the page as torn from Israel and Elizabeth Chauncey's family bible but it doesn't appear to be exactly that. Israel's birthdate is listed without a specific day; his father Charles' death date is given without a specific day. It has the appearance of information written down some years after the fact. My guess is that Russell asked his mother or used his own memory to write out the dates sometime around 1800 or a little afterward. Only birth and death dates are listed so there's no marriage record listing Elizabeth Petty.
As to "Huckabone" or "Hogaboom," that name was current with Stanley Dunn 25 years ago when he and I were corresponding. I don't know whether he got it from an earlier family historian. The story he told me was that my ancestor, Roswell ("Rozzel"), went to live with his mother's family as a young man. Unlike his brother Russell, Roswell doesn't appear to have joined the "in gathering" of the Shakers (which affected everyone else in his family except Russell). Roswell and Russell were the youngest children, and boys, and it just might be that they rebelled in the late 1780's and early '90's from the strict Shaker doctrines.
If you haven't seen Mary Haupt's book and would like to, let me know and I'll make you a photocopy [it's only about 15 pages].
