Machir/Macker Cheek, son of George Cheek and Leanna of the Front Royal, VA area. Not much information on him. He was apparently named after Alexander Machir, a Revolutionary war patriot and friend of George Cheek, according to Eula Marie Holtze Brown, in her book *Parks Family History: Ancestors and Descendants of George Washington Parks*.
Born about 1752, according to Eula Marie Holtze Brown's book.
He supposedly married a woman named Mary, last name unknown. She is supposed to have died in 1774. This from an online family tree, the "Clara Bragg Higgins\Neville Lord of Abergavenny" Ancestry GEDCOM file from www.ancestry.com.
A Macker Cheek shows up in Randolph county, Illinois in 1812, where he signed a petition to the then governor of that territory, along with a William Cheek. Source information for this tidbit is from Elihu Benjamin Washburne, Editor, *The Edwards Papers: Being a Portion of the Collections of the Letters, Papers, and Manuscripts of Ninian Edwards by His Son Ninian Wirt Edwards*, Chicago Historical Society Collection, Volume III. Fergus Printing Company, Chicago. 1884., page 78.
Machir Cheek's namesake, Alexander Machir, was a Scotsman, from what I understand.
Regarding Francis Cheek, there are at least two, possibly three Francis Cheeks living about the same time frame in the same area. One died in the Revolutionary war. One had two sons, James and Elijah, who married into the Horton family line. These two Francis Cheeks do not appear to be descendants of George Cheek and Leanna, although there is a reasonable chance that these lines may have a blood relationship of some kind to the George Cheek and Leanna line and their Francis Cheek.
There are also discrepancies concerning the reputed wives of the Francis Cheek, son of George Cheek, but as to which ones and how many were his actual wife or wives, I could not tell you, as some people have some of his wives also being the wives of the other Francis Cheek.
The early Cheek history is a bit of a mess because so very few researchers bothered to give any sources for their information so we do not have any way of determining who is what line. And because of this and the fact that there was more than one individual with the same name (in fact there were multiple Francis, George, Mary & William Cheeks in the same area about the same time, unsourced material concerning these people becomes less reliable. Unfortunately.
Hope this is of some use.
