Cheetham's from Orston, Nottingham, England
I have been researching my family name for a great number of years. For over 200 years they lived in a village called Orston in Nottingham. The first reference I found in the Parish register was to a John Chitam, which changed within a couple of years to Cheetham. This was the marriage of John Chitam to Elizabeth Martin on Aug 22 1726 I am trying to find out where John came from. Names I have come across include Richard bapt 10.4.1773, Joseph 25.11.1817. The main occupations include blacksmith and farm labourer although one Cheetham owned the Hall in the village. The blacksmiths is still there complete with a horseshoe design in the brickwork. My other family name interests are Dennis from Jersey, White from Brentford and Wakeman my mothers maiden name.
