I agree with you, sloppy research does more harm than good, and so many people believe anything in black & white must be fact -- I'm getting more and more to say, "show me the primary sources and then I'll believe it."
I have had the line you referenced -- that Richard Cheney who emigrated to Maryland (m. Charity ____) in the mid -1600's was the son of Richard Cheney of London and Ann Ellinor; the line goes back on both the Cheney and Ellinor sides for several more generations. It's been in my"tentative" folder, where I put information that I consider to be unproven.Has, in fact, this line from Richard of MD back been proven, or is this still just supposition based on the similarity of the names?(I would guess the latter based on your post.)
I'd be interested to hear whatever you have to say on the ancestry of the Maryland Cheneys -- sounds like you're a pretty careful researcher!
