Hi all
Just reviewing my Bowlby & Chesley files and came across your posting of 3/1/2006.

I have no answer for your Asa Chesley. However I think that Major Samuel Chesley who married Eleanor Moore may have been a Loyalist, as possibly was Eleanor's father.
I know for sure that the Bowlby family was and that they came from Mansfield - WoodHouse, New Jersey and that the original Bowlby Immigrant was Thomas Bowlby from Mansfield-Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire, England and his wife martha Barker.
The Chesleys appear to have been in Annapolis, Nova Scotia before 1882 when the war ended and the Loyalists were forced to leave the colonies. Thus the Chelsey and Moore families were probably there as part of a military unit.

Let me know if you find anything. My husband is a Chelsey/Bowlby descendant and I am working on the Chelsey side also.
You think Asa was born c 1758 so he would be about the same generation as Elizabeth "Betty" Chelsey who married George Bowlby Sr.
