The marriage record in the Kinderhook Reformed Dutch Church says Lydia was the widow of "Jan Wallis." I always thought this was Dutch for "John Wallace" but "Wells" is probably just as likely. I do not know of any record in the Kinderhook area of Lydia's marriage to Jan/John, so thought it likely that they were married elsewhere. I have also speculated that Jan/John was somehow killed in the French and Indian War which was going on at about that time, but of course it is just speculation and he could have died from just about anything in those days.

On the same day Peter and Lydia were married, a child, Catherine, was baptized naming Peter and Lydia as the parents. However, I strongly suspect Catherine was Lydia's child by her first husband, and the baptism was by way of Peter adopting the child.

Who was Henry Wells and where did he live? How did you find the Chesley message board? This is interesting and I hope it leads somewhere.
