I am interested in the Wels/Wallis connection. In 1764 Hendrick Willis (Henry Wells) and wife Nelly Van Vliet sponsored Simon, child of Pieter Kesley and Lydia Nieujohn. In your post you cited an earlier marriage between Lydia and a Jan Wals who I am thinking might be a relative of this Henry. I first find Henry Wells in Dutchess County in 1762. He married Nelly Van Vliet and they moved to Kinderhook. I don't know if Henry was from Kinderhook.
Do you have any information on the ancestry of Lydia?
