I have a John Byassee b. 1755 and wife Edy Westbrook and family that was on the Amelia Tax lists in 1782 and 1783. John had a son named Thomas C. Byassee. I have never seen what name that C was for. However, John and Edy had a son, John Henry who married Elvira Katerina Winfrey and had a son named Thomas Chesley. John Henry and family showed up in Nodaway, VA, and then Persons, NC and finally Hickman County, KY. There was an E. R. Ray who was a county clerk and recorded a deed for John Byassee in Hickman in 1859. Sometimes children are named for a family member and sometimes for a neighbor, but wonder if there is a connection between Byassee / Byasse and Chesley? There was a John Byasse on a ship from England in 1711 to Virginia, and he is probably an ancestor.
