Dear Sue - It is difficult to know where to start! I am in the direct descent line from John Chessell, Alexander, Henry and my father, also Henry Chessell. Your great grandfather, Samuel Whittaker, married, as you say, Alexander's daughter, Hephzibah, who was named after her grandmother. Alexander was married to Margaret Bentley (1827-1867) and after her death, Margaret's sister, Martha Bentley, acted as Alexander's housekeeper and is buried in the same plot as John, Hephzibah, Ann and Henry Chessell at St. Luke's Church, Cheetham Hill, Manchester. Joseph Chessell, Catherine, William, Margaret and Alexander are in the same plot. I have a great deal of family information, trees, notes, stories etc. but it is difficult to go through all this and somehow we need to exchange information by direct e-mail. As part of all this, I can tell you how the Chessell family moved from Derbyshire to Nottinghamshire and then to Manchester and all about the engineering background which started with John in the early years of the industrial revolution and was developed and continued by Alexander and my grandfather, Henry.
Regards, Antony
