The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, August 15, 1906

Word was received in Lucas last Friday of the sudden death of JAS. F. CHEW,
formerly superintendent of the Big Hill mine at this place, but for a few
years past connected with a mine at White City. At the time the last
summons came, MR. CHEW was in Colfax in apparently as good health as usual
and death came almost instantly, the cause being ascribed to heart failure.

During his sojourn in Lucas he and his family made many warm friends and the
news of his sudden demise was a great shock to this community. The wife and
six children are left to mourn his untimely demise.
