Thomas E. Chew (21) living in Dunkirk, Calvert County, MD. in 1860

I live in California and am having a hard time tracing down Calvert County Record. I've checked all kinds of Chew Family records to no avail!!
1860 census, Thomas E. Chew was living in Dunkirk, Calvert County, MD, a 21 year old Planter-Farmer and that is as far back as I can trace in this family line.
In this same census four listings down from Thomas E is Philemon Chew 25, wife Mary 23, dau. Mary 5, baby girl less than 1 year, and Robert Chew 19, looks like a Mary Cox 55 on the same page. I don't know if they were brothers, cousins or what, cause I can't find family connections any farther back for Thomas E. Chew.
In 1870 census Thomas E. Chew (32), now a store keeper, and his wife Mary E Chew/ nee Griffith (20) were living in the Eighth Election District of Anne Arundel County, South River. Living next-door in an Eliza A. Smith (40), a John L. Griffith (16) and Smith children ranging from 9-14 years old. Living on the other side of this family is storekeeper+Farmer, Franklin Griffith (41), wife Mary E. (39), son (15), Frank T. (12), Robert S. (9), Sallie (7), and farm hand, store clerk and domestic servant.
Mary E. and Thomas E. Chew's children Mary L. Chew (1869), Annie E. Chew (1870), Gertrude Eliza Chew (1871), John E. Chew (1873).
The story goes that they lived somewhere around Friendship, MD in Southern Anne Arundel and this is near Dunkirk, Calvert County. (South River to my recollection in considerably north of there...but maybe quick by waterways?) Thomas E. Chew never remarried, after Polly (Mary) Griffith, the love of his life, died and raised their family by himself.
Any info appreciated, as this is basically the only info I have on this side of my family. Thanks
