Yes Matt, sounds to close to be coincidental. Did your ggggrandfather Christopher Cheyne of Tyrone(1802-1887) come here to Canada? My ggggrandfather Robert Cheyne of Tyrone(1783-1863)came here in 1831. A Lowther Cheyne died aboard the boat. I am not sure yet whether this was Robert's father , brother or son. Possibly your Lowther(1831-1913) was named in honour of him, if your Christopher had also come here during that period of immigration, and knew in time. Or, possibly, news travelled back to Ireland in time to name the new child or perhaps it was a common family name. The oral history is that the (our) Cheynes left Scotland during the 'land clearances'.There were supposedlytwo brothers who left Scotland. The Christopher who married Elizabeth Swan was born in Ireland in 1754, according to Marvel Nash in message #102. He could have been the brother of Robert's father Lowther. Maybe then, it was thier father and his brother who left Scotland. Many questions remain. I would be interested in knowing more about both your and Mr Nash' Cheyne families. Maybe we can put it all together. Maybe some other of the aforementioned have the answers. Anyone?
