Just did a quick check of UK Census 1851,61,71,81,91 & 1901 and not a single Susannah CHILD was to be found born in Devon!(even using soundex) I could have missed it, but I checked more than once. Found a Susannah E.CHILD b ca 1838 living in London <but> w/her family. Birthplace also London. This Susannah named after her mother.
I offer the info following just in case there is a link to this Devonshire family: Charles Henry CHILD, wife Fanny[Frances] and 8 children all living in Chudleigh,Devon in 1861~
Daughters: Emily,Fanny,Martha. Sons: Charles Henry,Francis Thomas,George Clulow,Percy William,Sidney. All the daughters and sons except eldest son Charles Henry had the middle name 'Clulow'(sic?). Possibly wife Fanny's maiden name.
Son Francis Thomas CHILD emigrated to Canada, possibly to the US first as eldest daughter was born there. All others born in British Columbia,Canada.
Hopefully this offers a few possible paths to check on. I have some BMD's as well. If relevant to your search let me know.
Penny
