1901 photo of Cecile Maud Child (1878-1936)

I recently purchased the subject studio portrait of a young woman taken by Frederick W. Rice, Worcester, MA. It is identified on the back of the mount in period handwriting:

"Cecile Maud Child,
Middlebury College 1901."

It is accompanied by an undated newspaper clipping describing the subject's wedding.

This individual appears in a public member tree posted on ancestry.com and attached to that record is a scan of this same image. I found her listed in the 1880 and 1900 Census data for Weybridge, Addison Co., VT; and the 1910, 1920, and 1930 Census data for Fair Haven (resided on West Park Place), Rutland Co., VT. I found her in the "Vermont Death Records, 1909-2008" database on ancestry.com. She is also included in "Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont, and of others who have received degrees 1800-1915," complied by Edgar J. Wiley, Middlebury College (1917).

Cecile Maud Child, born 15 Nov 1878 in Weybridge, VY, died 5 Jun 1936 in Fair Haven, VT, was the daughter of a farmer, George Edward Child, born Feb 1851 in VT; and Susan H. Wright, born May 1854 in VT. On 30 Jun 1903, Cecile married a slate manufacturer turned bank president, George H. V. Allen, born about 1879 in VT. The couple had two children--Elizabeth Vail Allen, born about 1910 in VT; and Katherine C. Allen, born about 1912 in VT.
