Jennifer....we are related!Your gfather, Elmer Childers, would have been my mother's uncle.Elmer was the baby of the family. My gmother was, Ida Mae, who was Elmer's sister.Yes, I do have a copy of Elmer's death certificate and it shows he died Christmas day in 1959.We still have living family that remembers your gfather. They live in Bedford, IN, Lawrence County.William W. Childers is buried in Indpls. and Elizabeth is buried in Bedford. In fact, her tombstone was handmade by William and has a hand-carved flower on it.After Elizabeth died when Elmer was very young (died in 1913/1914) William had the children for about 2 years. My gmother married a much older man, William Jack Patton, and Ellen married an older man who was a neighbor. The remaining children were put into foster homes when William was sent to prison for rape....a charge that was later recanted by the young girl he was supposed to have raped.I hope this helps you somewhat. The one thing that we have been unable to find is the birth certificate for Elmer.Do you have any idea where he was born? All the other kids were born in Lawrence Co. IN with the exception of Ellen who was born in Kansas.Haven't been able to find out what they were doing going from Indiana to Kansas and then returning to Indiana.I'd love to meet you and put our notes together to see if we can find the missing "hook".My email address is [email protected] to hear from you real soon.
