NORWOOD NEWS:
Born to WINFIELD PENNINGTON and wife, a son.
O.A. WALLACE moved a house for GEO. SEFRIT a few days ago.
GEO. SNUGGS and son JAKE were callers at GILLIE ROBERTS near Liberty Center, last Sunday.
R.E. PEDIGO has moved back to their farm from Chariton.
JOE POUCH is working for FRED CONRAD.
Born to CLAY PFRIMMER and wife, a daughter.
GARFIELD CRAWFORD is breaking out some new land on R.O. MILLER's farm, that he will farm in corn.
March 18th being the 25th anniversary of the marriage of MR. and MRS. T.D. ASHBY, their daughters, EDITH and OLA, planned a surprise for them by inviting in a goodly number of their neighbors. About forty responded being: H.D. CLORE, wife and daughter VERA; W.W. CLORE and wife; S.S. BAXTER, wife and daughter HELEN; MR. and MRS. FRED LEHART; CHAS. BOND and wife; JOHN PRIM, wife and daughter ARDIS; G.L. ASHBY, wife and sons JESSE and LEWIS, and daughters, KATIE, NELLIE and DOROTHY; O.A. WALLACE, wife and daughter MABEL; MR. and MRS. FRED CONRAD and daughters, VIVIAN, MAGGIE and GRETCHEN; E.J. BENWAY and wife; A.L. ARNOLD, wife and children, HAZEL and HAROLD. Each taking well filled baskets, a fine dinner was served. They were the recipients of numerous and useful presents. A good time was enjoyed by all.
CHESTER EUBANK and CECIL KEEN have gone to North Dakota to work.
MRS. G.N. WALLACE is visiting in Carlisle and Des Moines.
Some of our farmers are intending to raise barley and some spelt.
LEW WALLACE is working for WHIT CLORE.
MRS. LIZZIE ASHBY, wife of A.C. ASHBY of Genoa, Neb., was buried here last Monday, having died in Lucas on the Saturday before. She came to Lucas to the bedside of her father, JOHN CHILDERS, who died there a few days ago. While preparing to return home she was taken sick. The husband was sent for but she grew worse and before he got here the children were sent for but she was dead before the children arrived. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Pond at the M.E. Church at this place.

*A couple of questions -- Does anyone know anything about Rev. Pond? He was the father of my step-grandmother; Ethel Lena Pond (Baker)(McMurtrey).
I know nothing about her family. I also heard my father talk about 'Grandma Schotte', who, I assume was also related to them. Wish I had asked these questions many, many years ago.. Is anyone related to them????
