From the Topeka (Kansas) Capital-Journal, January 9, 1994: Sallie Marie Chrisman Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Paul AME Church at Independence, Mo., for Sallie Marie Chrisman, 92, Topeka, who died Thursday, Jan. 6, 1994 at a Topeka nursing home where she had lived since January 1993. Mrs. Chrisman was a former housekeeper for President Harry S. Truman. She was born July 13, 1901, in Lafayette County, Mo., the daughter of James and Stella Coats Chinn. Mrs. Chrisman was a member of St. Paul AME Church in Independence. She was married to George William Chrisman Jan. 29, 1921 in Jackson County, Mo. He died June 29, 1969. A daughter, Ivona Hambright, died Feb. 7, 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Lujuana Crowder, Topeka; a son, George William Chrisman, Jr., Independence, Mo.; a brother, Horace Chinn, Kansas City, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Burial is pending. Mrs. Chrisman will lie in state from noon until service time Wednesday at the church. Watkins Brothers Memorial Chapel is in charge of Kansas City arrangements. Bowser-Johnson Funeral Chapel is in charge of Topeka arrangements. Notify Administrator about this message?
