I forget to check in here so I've missed a lot of queries and I hope this gets to you since it was back in December.
There was no divorce per se that has been recorded/found but there were court orders for Rawleigh to pay off Esther. Esther filed a complaint against Rawleigh and yes the whole story is very sorted. To be perfectly blunt if I may: Esther alleged that Rawleigh beat her almost daily. That she was made to go to the home of Margaret (her cousin) to birth Margaret and Rawleigh's child. She filed also a restraining order keeping him from selling off the property willed to her by her father Joseph Ball. After testimony by a friend of Rawleigh's the case was dismissed and then Esther turned around and filed suit against HIM for perjury. Something occured because Rawleigh was ordered to pay for the care of said child, was also ordered to pay Esther quite a sum in tobacco etc. The whole thing appeared to have alienated Esther and her children. After all this went down there was apparently a confrontation and fight between Esther's brother Joseph and Rawleigh's. A law suit was filed for assault. Rawleigh was ordered before the courts several times for drunk and disorderly behavior, swearing etc. He AND Margaret were ordered before the courts several times for cohibating and bearing bastard children. Apparently Rawleigh and Margaret didn't feel the need that they should bow to the courts and appear and basically a warrant for Margaret's arrest was issued.
Rawleigh and Esther were my 7th great grandparents. I have transcripts/abstracts of these court orders as well as the information about Esthers complaint against Rawleigh.
