We just returned home from a trip to Brunswick County and New Hanover County in N.C. We found a death certificate for a R.W. Chinnis, son of Benjamin Chinnis and Flora Matthews. It showed both of the parents being from Scotland. We haven't been able to prove it yet, but we believe Michael, Benjamin and Daniel Chinnis were brothers. We found in the 1850 census where Daniel had a son named William and we found the obituary for a William J. Chinnis that said he was the brother of Samuel Robert Chinnis. I am the ggranddaughter of Samuel Robert. We, my husband and I, found our info in the New Hanover County Library in Wilmington and also at the Brunswick County court house in Bolivia. Hope this helps.
