Thomas Chubb is not an ancestor. He is a sibject in the book I am preparing for publication. It will be a biographical dictionary of the officers of the Confederate States Navy. Ship’s boy, USN, 1818-1823. Coxwain, United States Navy, 1827-1831. U. S. Frigate Java. Stevedore at Boston. Engaged in commercial and maritime pursuits, including stave trading, 1831-1836.

Superintendent of Public Construction, State of Texas. Merchant in naval operations and merchantile businessman at Galveston, Texas, 1839-1861. Took part in the capture of the steamer Star of the West at Indianola, Texas, 19 April 1861.
Appointed Acting Master, CSN, from Texas, 9 October 1861.
Commanding the schooner Royal Yacht, 10 October - 8 November 1861. Captured in Galveston Harbor, Texas, 8 November 1861. Imprisoned at New York City, Fort Lafayette, and Fort Calhoun. Paroled, 4 February 1862. Exchanged and reported to duty, 25 March 1862. Resumed command of Royal Yacht, 27 May 1862. Captured 15 April 1863, while running the blockade.
Married Phoebe Briggs, 8 October 1829.
