CHURCHILL FAMILY IN AMERICA,s Manhattan Family has a Lavina Churchill born 10 May 1822 who married a Lewis Clark. They lived in Altay, NY in 1890. There is no mention of Lewis & Clark expedition and the time frame would be after the expedition.

If there is a connection, your comment about Meriwether Lewis Clark naming Churchill Downs after his mother's Churchill family is interesting. That would suggest that the Churchills of Churchill Downs fame were of the American Manhatten family and, thus, descended from the ancient English Devon/Dorset Churchills as opposed to being of the American Virginia Churchill family which settled in Virginia in Colonial time. Previously it was thought that the CHURCHILL DOWNS Churchills were of the American Virginia Churchill family whose American ancestors came to the Virginia Colony circa 1600s. Devon/Dorset and Oxfordshire Churchills are not at all related.
