Hi Sarah,

There is a tree at which shows

AZARIAH CHURCHILL and ELIZA SOMERTON as parents of your Blanch

Here is what they have:

Azariah Churchill born June 1856, Portugal Cove, NFLD

Eliza Somerton born June 1859, Portugal Cove, NFLD

1. Chesley, born 1880 died 1917 -married Bertha Mae Hibbs - born Oct. 24, 1882 Portugal Cove, died 1972
CH: Mildred 1909, Azariah, 1911, Edith 1913

2. Frederick, born Aug. 1883 died1921 - married Martha Jane Fry - born Dec. 1882 Portugal Cove
CH: Chesley, 1907 and three more just listed as living

3. Bert, born 1885 - no more info on him

4. Molly, born 1885 - married Algie Tucker

5. Dell, born 1892 , Portugal Cove, - married Jane Hennessey - born Sept. 1894 Kelligrews, NFLD

6. Blanche, born Oct. 28, 1894 - married Ambrose Brown - born June 1893 Little Bay, NFLD
CH: they show 4 just listed as living

7. John, born 1897 - no more info on him

This is a OneWorldTree and does not show who gave the information so you would need to find sources to prove if it is correct, but it is a starting place at least.

As to Marie/Molly that is not uncommon at all. Some Mary girls were called Molly or Polly as a nickname - I have a Mary Josephine in my family and she was always called Polly.

Newfoundland became a province in 1949 which I suppose is why it is not included in the census before then as far as I can tell.

One very strange thing is that I found a birth for a Blanche Churchill with parents Azariah CHurchill and Eliza Somerton.
This Blanche was born in ON

Ontario, Canada Births, 1869-1911 about Blanche Churchill
Name:       Blanche Churchill
Date of Birth:       27 Jul 1891
Gender:       Female
Birth County:       York
Father's name:       Azariah Churchill
Mother's name:       Eliza Somerton
Archives of Ontario Microfilm:       MS929_103

The image shows:
father Azariah is a builder
Informant: Azariah Churchill 35 Olive Avenue, Toronto

** this makes her birth different from what you have and what the tree I found has

I then looked for the 1891 ON census and found

Azariah, age 37, carpenter, born Newfoundland, both parents born Newfoundland

Eliza, wife, age 34, born Newfoundland both parents born Newfoundland

Frederick, son, age 8, son, born Newfoundland, both parents born Newfoundland

Chesley, son, age 6, born Newfoundland, both parents born Newfoundland

Maria, daughter, age 4, daughter, born Newfoundland, both parents born Newfoundland

Bertie, son, age 2, son born Newfoundland, both parents born Newfoundland

** there are other Churchill families on same page, also from Newfoundland

Perhaps if you looked for a will for Azariah it would mention his children and hopefully would mention Blanche with her married name , then you would know if this is the right family for her.

How did you get her month and year and place of birth?

Carolyn L
