Ihave a Lydia Churchill in the family. Her father was Ezra Churchill of Portugal Cove, Nfld.Ezra had 4 daughters by his first marriage to an "Unknown" Picco, then he married my ggrandmother, Sarah Ann Gillett (nee Moulton) of Pouch Cove.Sarah m. my ggrandfather James Gillett of Exploits in 1866? they had a son James Gillett born Dec. 23rd, 1868, but Sarah's husband was the captain of a ship that went down in Conception Bay before my grandfather was born.So Sarah m. Ezra Churchill.Ezra, had a store in Portugal Cove and one lady told me, Ezra basically ran the town. When my grandfather m. in Toronto in 1892/93, one of the witnesses was a Lydia Churchill, I believe this is Ezra's daughter. After that I can't find her.Ezra and Sarah had quite a few children, but from what I know, none of the sons had families.Only a daughter Jessie had a family. My grandfather mentioned to us that Ezra was related somehow to the "Winston" people, but I never have been able to prove that.Ezra had a brother Frederick, but I'm not sure who Frederick's children were.I always thought Azariah was one of Frederick's children, but again no proof.I hope this may help.On Cyndi's List for Nfld. I posted Ezra's will, it may be on the Grandbanks site, I can't remember now.Perhaps there is someone who can help you find Frederick's children. He is buried in Portugal Cove along with Ezra but his wife is buried in a Catholic Cemetary.Denise MacDonald, Williams Lake, B.C.
