Josiah Churchill (1613-1686) is the head of the Connecticut Branch of the Churchill family in America. There is a wonderful geneology written by Samuel Joseph Churchill, a medal of honor receipient from the Battle of Nashville during the Civil War that can be viewed online.

I believe that Josiah is the grandson of John Churchill (1561-1621) & Eleanor Meller and great grandson of William Churchill (1531-1599)& Mary Cruese who had three sons: William, Roger & John.

As far as I can tell, the Marlbourough/Spencer line is decended from William's son Roger and Josiah's line is decended from his son John (1561-1621) who is also the grandfather of John (the Colonist). Josiah & John appear to be brothers.
