Sandra,

I don't know of a list of soldiers killed at Franklin, but found a little that may help.

Per the National Park Service website (see link) below, there were five soldiers named Heck who served in Iowa regiments:

1. Alexander R. Heck, Company K, 2nd Iowa Cavalry
2. George Heck, Co. D, 48th Iowa Infantry
3. John Heck, Co. K, 22nd Iowa Infantry
4. John Heck, Co. K, 35th Iowa Infantry
5. Samuel Heck, Co. M, 7th Iowa Cavalry

Here's what I found on each of the five above...

1. Alexander R. Heck, killed at Franklin, TN:

Alexander Heck
RESIDENCE: West Point, Iowa
Enlistment Date: 20 Aug 1861
Side Served: Union
State Served: Iowa
Service Record: Enlisted as a 4th Corporal on 20 August 1861 at the age of 21.
Enlisted in Company K, 2nd Cavalry Regiment Iowa on 30 Aug 1861.
Promoted to Full Privateate (Reduced to ranks) on 1 Feb 1862.
Promoted to Full 6th Corporal on 15 Oct 1862.
Promoted to Full 5th Corporal on 1 Feb 1863.
Promoted to Full 4th Corporal on 1 Jun 1864.
Promoted to Full 3rd Corporal on 23 Jul 1864.
Promoted to Full 2nd Corporal on 13 Sep 1864.
Promoted to Full Corporal on 1 Nov 1864.
Killed Company K, 2nd Cavalry Regiment Iowa on 17 Dec 1864 at Franklin, TN.

2. George Heck: Residence Burlington, Iowa. Mustered out 21 Oct 1864 Rock Island, IL
3. John Heck: 22nd Iowa Infantry, residence Iowa City, Iowa. Discharged for wounds 5 Jan 1865 Davenport, Iowa.
4. John Heck: 35th Iowa, residence Lowden, Iowa. Disability discharge 18 July 1865 at Selma, Alabama.
5. Samuel Heck: residence Cedar County, Iowa. Mustered out 22 June 1866 at Sioux City, Iowa.

Here's a census listing for a 20-year old Alexander Heck in the 1860 Perry County, Ohio census. I couldn't be sure it is the same Alexander since you said they had moved to Iowa. But, it's the closest match that I found so I'll pass it on. I didn't see a match for any Alexander R. Heck in Iowa in 1860.

1860 Census
Perry County, OH
pg 56, family 419/412

Alexander Heck, age 45, born Ohio
Rachel, 37, OH
Margaret, 15, OH
Alexander Jr., 20, OH
Elizabeth, 14, OH
Catharine, 13, OH
Susan, 9, OH
Maria, 7, OH
Hannah, 4, OH

This family was still in Perry County, OH in 1870 but the younger Alexander wasn't there. I didn't see a match for him in 1870 so he may well be the one killed at Franklin, Tn.

You could order copies of his service records. They may give a little more information.

Hope this helps,
Scott
