Hello Scott, Thank you for answering. Yes, I have both his pension and military file, but there wasn't any mention of the name of the battle in which he was wounded or what part of his body. The battle of Pine Bluff was on the date they gave, and the internet page about the battle mentioned my great grandfather's Regiment, Company and the name of the commanding officer. William Henry STEELE's wife preceeded him in death. The notations as to his reason for the pension request had to do with loss of sight of both eyes (almost total in both eyes), that he had contracted chronic rheumatism and wasn't able to work for a living. There were also papers showing requests for increases in the amount he was receiving. This happened more than once. From what it looked like, these increases had to pass a vote in Congress before the soldiers could get their money. Have you ever heard of someone finding anything in a "Battle Book" and or the "Folio" or even if these are available for research? Do you know if these records might be available at the National Archives? Thanks again for answering. Jan Notify Administrator about this message?
