I found a pension index record of a William H. Hopkins of Company "A",9th Iowa Infantry,received an invalid's pension Sept 10,1866 and his wife ,Kate Higgins,received a widows pension Sept 28,1911.

The service record for the soldier noted above is;
Name: William Hopkins
RESIDENCE: Spragueville, Iowa
Enlistment Date: 29 Jul 1861
Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 29 July 1861 at the age of 21.Mustered into Company A, 9th Iowa Infantry Regiment on 24 Sep 1861.
Mustered Out on 24 Sep 1864 at East Point, GA
