Names of parents and their DOBs were not collected in military records back in the mid-1800s. Your best hope to find these was in his pension application file, but evidently it wasn't there.

Your best best for finding their names is probably the Census of Population data. Start with where he lived in 1860 and then try to find him in the 1850 Census of Population for the same county.

Have you contacted the local historic societies of the counties he lived in at the start of the war? Not only will they probably have the Census data for the county, they may have information on his family.
