You are correct; your ancestor was granted a 30-day furlough, or leave of absence, from the hospital in order to return home and recuperate. Such furloughs were commonly granted in the Confederate service as authorities believed that soldiers recuperated better at home with their families, rather than in a military hospital. The practice also freed up space in the hospitals. Hope this helps.
