Alan,

Mr. G.W. Young did receive a Federal land grant on Nov. 25, 1910, in Baldwin County. However, the grant would have been in conformance with the Homestead Act of 1862, and would have had nothing to do with his father's service. If Alexander did indeed serve in the CS army, he would have been prevented from obtaining a grant until 1876. You can see the grant here:
