The National Park Service site:
http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.cfm
does not list him as a member of the 19th Mississipi. That does not mean he wasn't, but makes it more likely he was in another unit. Widows, or old veterans for that matter, often made mistakes on pension applications.
If he was in the 19th - here is a history of that unit:
http://mississippiscv.org/MS_Units/19th_MS_INF.htm
Look to see where Co. E was recruited. If he was not from that county, it makes it even more likely that he was not in this unit.
A common name like this makes it a little trickier, but by visiting this site:
http://history-sites.com/cgi-bin/bbs53x/mscwmb/webbbs_config.pl you will find many experts on Mississippi in the Civil War, and, once you have pinned down the right man, you can order his records, as well as a copy of the pension application directly from the site, thereby getting very personal service from an expert on the subject rather than a clerk.

Good Luck,
Rick
