Cause of death for John Campbell from Warren Co., IL during the Civil War

John Campbell, born 1845 in Ireland, joined the Union Army, Co., A, 83 Ill Volunteers on 21 Aug. 1862 along with his brother, James Campbell. John died on 27 May 1864 in a Clarksville, TN hospital. His death was not from battle. Is there any way a person can find out just what John died of? Is there any records of these deaths available for a person to check. Thank you very much.
