Hello Lou,

JOHN (Clasby) GILLESPIE, is a descendant of WILLIAM CLASBY born 1729 in Caroline Co. and his wife, Mary of Amherst Co., VA. (See message # 108) John has joined our Gillespie DNA Project. Since he is not a match to our other Gillespie family groups, he is the first in Gillespie DNA Project Group 23. When we have a new participant in our DNA Project, others sometime join that know their family line, and establish their common ancestor. It has helped many of us that are unable to locate their missing ancestor.

We invite you to join our Gillespie DNA Project. The kits are less expensive when bought through a family project. You could also use the resulting male markers established by the kits you order to start a Clasby DNA Project when you have an administrator to help organize it. Only male Clasby descendants can be tested for Clasby YDNA, but female members can be members of our Gillespie (and all other spellings) DNA Project. There is no cost to join our project. The only cost is for the kits you order from Family Tree DNA. Sending in your kit is as simple as ordering the kit, swabbing the inside of your jaw (cheek), and mailing in the kit. My nephew was tested for my direct line. We are in group 3.

Our administrator, Connie McKenzie will be happy to help with any information you need. Her email address is

Some of John (Clasby) Gillespie’s ancestors are listed in message # 108. If you want to compare family information please reply or e-mail me. We’re hoping to hear from you.
