Hi Kay,
Well, not much proof yet but as I mentioned, my Walter Barr b. 1825/8 m. Agnes CLAVE b. 1833 dau of Alexander b. 1808/11. I think that I may have found Walter's parents, Walter b. 1797 and Mary 1798 b. Ire. and they were living in Stoneykirk on the 1881 census. Close to your James Clave. I wonder if your James is son of this Alexander too. Do you know if he had any siblings like Robert or Alexander?
